High Fat Diet
Several epidemiologic studies have shown a correlation between dietary
fat and prostate cancer. Men who consume a high fat diet have an increased
risk of developing prostate cancer.
Red meat is the food with the strongest positive association. An
unsaturated fatty acid, hinolenic acid also conferred a risk.
Protective
Tomatoes, especially cooked, protect against prostate cancer. Tomatoes
contain lycopene which is a potent antioxidant.
Vitamin E, an antioxidant has been shown in Finnish and Swiss studies
to decrease prostate cancer mortality.
Asian diets consume soy products. The incidence and mortality of
prostate cancer in Asian countries is the lowest in the world.
Soy contains phyto-oestrogens which have estrogenic activity. Soy
products were shown to inhibit prostate cancer formation in animal models.
